Editorial Comments (Author's Opinion)
This is a complete course in basic Locksmithing in book form. It is easy to read, having been written in a conversational tone, much like the Association classes taught by its authors, upon which it is heavily based. Don OShall has personally trained some of the most successful locksmiths in this country, and has written over 40 books and booklets for Locksmiths. Tony West began teaching Master Keying and Basic Locksmithing in 1982, and has taught Basic Locksmithing in government sponsored classes as well as Locksmithing Associations. This book draws from the experience and knowledge of both these experts. That being said, the book is intended to be not only a training book to bring a person from beginner or apprentice level toward Journeyman level, but also an excellent and useful reference text for the experienced Locksmith. This book will not make a person into a Journeyman Locksmith. Experts all agree that it takes approximately 5,000 hours of on-the-job practice to achieve Journeyman level. But this book will provide you with the knowledge to achieve those hours effectively and maximize your skills along the way. On a scale of 1 to 5 stars with 1 being Not Recommended" and 5 being "Buy NOW!", my opinion puts this at 4.5 stars.
